The Perfect Beach Bag

Aloha, my beach-goers!  Today I want to share with all of you some really cute beach totes and clutches I’ve been eyeing lately.  I go to the beach on a weekly basis, and unfortunately I live in an area where we have to pay for parking (so unfair, right?).  This normally means I have to bring my wallet down on the beach with me (which I should be doing no matter what) but sometimes I get concerned about getting sand all in it, as well as with my phone.  The problem is, I throw my phone or wallet into my beach bag along with my snorkel mask and sunscreen, mindlessly forgetting about all the sand and water that gets attracted to them, making me paranoid!  Then I got a little smarter and started putting them into plastic bags.  It doesn’t look very cute, nor is it very environmentally friendly, so recently I have found some alternatives to this madness and I thought I would share it with my Fashion Forward Followers!
My all time favorite beach clutches right now are made by Little Coconut Hawaii!  I came across the brand through an Instagram post from a Hawaii surf shop I follow.  I went straight to their Instagram page and feel in love instantly!  Their clutches come in small, medium and large sizes in a variety of patterns, ranging from $30-65.  Maybe a little pricey but they are totally worth it, and even cute enough for a casual summer night out with the girls.

Another cute beach bag that I have recently come across is made by Chapman at the Sea.  After doing some research to share this bag with all of you, I found out that they made in Boca Raton, FL where I am current living while I’m in school, and I thought that was really awesome!  What I love about these bags is that they look so beachy and nautical.  They are partially canvas and have a rope handles and they are all sewed together by hand so no two look exactly the same.  With such detail they are also a like pricey at around $100 but they will last a long time and will hold all the things you need for a day at the beach!
Canvas Beach Bags
The last beach clutch that has been on my radar is very similar to Little Coconut Hawaii’s but I needed to share because I am just as obsessed with these bags as I am with those!  They are made by Samudra and while they only come in one size, (10.5” x 13”) they come in a lot more designs than Little Coconut Hawaii’s, and are priced at $65.

I hope that I have introduced to you fashion lovers new ideas for some great beach totes and clutches!  I included links to their websites so head over and check them out.  These bags help me stay organized while keeping my stuff sand free, and I am happy to share them with you!

I don’t know that I have mentioned this to all of my Fashion Forward Followers, or if you all have gotten the idea, but I am a huge bikini buff! I am addicted to buying them, and when I don’t have the money, I am looking at them online.  So needless to say the majority of the people I follow on Instagram are swimwear companies, rather than a bunch of “friends.”  This last week, my Instagram feed has been filled with all these pictures from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: SWIM.  (and yes it was in Miami, July 17-20th, and I had no idea!!)
So because I wasn’t able to make it to the shows, I went to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week website to see what I have missed, and to see what styles I should be looking forward to this coming year.  I was happy to see some picture from some of my favorite brands such as Maaji, Mara Hoffman, and Mikoh.  I have some of their swimsuits and I just adore them!  So this week I have decided to share with all of you some of my favorite types of bikinis and some styles that have been very popular.

One of the more recent trends that I have seen, mostly only on Pintrest or other swimsuit websites, are one piece bikinis.  I know what you’re thinking… one pieces?! The awful tan lines, and the idea that one pieces remind you of older women. I know, I know, and I use to agree with you BUT lately I’ve wanted to try out this new trend for myself. (Clearly I wouldn’t be wearing this one piece to catch a great tan...)  It you haven’t seen them for yourself, you should check them out.  They aren’t has full coverage as you might be thinking, and they might surprise you on how cute they actually are!  Two of my most favorite styles are from Acacia and L Space.
Another more recent trend that I have notice appearing on the beaches of south Florida, as well as in some clothing stores, such as Abercrombie & Fitch and Victoria Secret, are the high-waisted bottom bikinis.  This idea might turn some of you off it you aren’t into the “high-waisted” trend (I am highly into this trend) or if you just prefer a better tan line then these bottoms offer!  Like the one pieces, I was also a little skeptical about this trend too.  I truly love the look and idea of the retro, 60’s swimsuit style, I just don’t know if it is something I would wear to the beach like a normal bikini.

I have saved my favorite trend for last!  Straps and fringe are definitely in the summer! (and not only in bikini form, also in bandeaus and tank tops!)  Fringe tops, such as the ones from L Space, have become very popular, and are seen almost everywhere in a variety of colors and patterns.  Strappy bikini tops have also been on my radar for a couple of months and I cannot wait to get one.  Instead of bathing suit tops tying at the neck like we are use too, these new strappy designed tops cover the back with different kinds of straps, and tie in the front.  This idea might sound foreign if you haven’t seen them before so check out some of my favorites by Mikoh and Acacia.

Toes in the Sand

There is nothing better than feeling sand and saltwater between my toes!  What makes this feeling even better is when I look down at my toes in the sand and see them freshly painted with my new “Bikini So Tiny” Essie nail polish!  Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case.  The sun, sand, and water make it a challenge to keep my nails looking flip-flop ready, and quite frankly, its embarrassing!

I don’t have a lot of money to get my nails done at the salon, so often when I do get my nails done, I go with my mom and she treats.  Because I don’t live with my mom, this doesn’t happen as often as I would like so I take it upon myself to paint my own nails.  I am sure this is very true among many girls my age so I figured I needed to share this with all of my readers.
Like I mentioned above, my favorite new color to paint my nails has been “Bikini So Tiny” by Essie, but I’ve also fallen in love with “Mint Candy Apple.”  During the summer time I enjoy painting my nails bright neon colors such as hot pink, bright orange, or yellow.  So far this summer I have been much in love with Essie’s blue colors, but in all honesty, all their colors make me weak.  Picking out a color becomes the hardest decision of my life when I am standing in front of the nail polish display with only $8 in hand.  I have a huge habit of sampling colors on each finger nail before selecting the best match.  (Caution: be careful about what stores you sample in, I once got yelled at for “spreading nail fungus” at one store I won’t mention.)
Nail Polish
More recently, I have been trying to be more creative with my toe nail polish and try something different from basic solid colors.  This creativeness was sparked when I saw an Instagram post from Goldfish Kiss.  She posted a few pictures of her fabulously painted toes with goldfish on them, and then another one with pineapples.  My first thought was “wow, that looks difficult,” but I was inspired and wanted to try it for myself.  All in all, it is a little hard, but as long as you’re patient it will turn out pretty cool!  Plus, you can get nail art pens that make drawing a little easier!  My first attempt was a solid blue nail polish with teeny-tiny orange goldfish.
Toe Nail Art
Once again, my go-to place for finding inspiration is Pintrest!  By searching “nail art,” I get thousands of pictures, and even tutorials on awesome ways to paint my nails.  Ambre nails have been trending recently and I tried it last week for the first time.  They came out alright but a little more tie-dye than ambre if you ask me.
Ambre Nails

So my fashion forward followers, whether it is a day at the beach or a barefoot blue jean kind of night, I hope these summer nail art ideas help your toes stay looking fabulous without breaking the bank at the salon!  You don’t need to be Picasso to have artsy looking nails, just a little inspiration, and an imagination!

Over the weekend, my boyfriend gave me a little gift.  He said when he saw this ankle bracelet it reminded him of the ones I use to wear when I first met him, and the days when we would be at the beach from sun up to sun down.  I remember my best friend and I would sit on the beach and watch all the boys surf and skim until our parents could pick us up when they got off work. One of our favorite things to do was make hemp ankle bracelets. We had a ton of them, a few on each ankle!
This thoughtful gift got me thinking about why I don’t wear those hemp anklets anymore and I couldn’t think of any good reason why! So I started to Google and Pintrest some cute new anklets, along with some other ideas for summer accessories.  I came across some really awesome accessories that I thought would be great to share with all my fashion forward followers!
Pura Vida bracelets were the first beach accessory that came to my mind when I started search for great beach friendly accessories.  Pura Vida means “pure life” in Spanish, and is a company that encompasses “enjoying life slowly, celebrating good fortune and not taking anything for granted.”  Their bracelets come in a wide variety of colors with an assortment of beads.  The best part is they even have a charity collection were a percentage of their sales goes to select charities.  I personally love these bracelets because they withstand the wear and tear of the ocean salt, sand and sun, and are easy to take off, and put back on again.  When I use to make my own hemp bracelets, I tied them on, so once they were on, they were on until I wanted to cut it off.  Pura Vida’s are a great, inexpensive way to accessories while you are having fun in the sun!

One “accessory” that I see a lot at the beach are tattoos. Tattoos have become very popular and trendy, especially with people my age.  They have always interested me and I have contemplated getting one several times but never made the move.  I have recently come across the best solution and it is called Flash Tats!  They are like removable tattoos we all use to get as kids, but they are for grown-ups! Even better… they are made for the beach!  They only have a handful of designs but they are all really awesome.  The tattoos come in sets, so you are paying about $20 for two to four sheets of tattoos.  Each collection is designed or inspired by different people.  My favorite one is the GoldfishKiss collection designed by Rebekah Steen, my F A V O R I T E blogger, ever.  I have not had the chance to try them out yet but from the pictures and reviews, they probably won’t disappoint.
Flash Tattoos
There are many ways in which you can dress up your beach attire and give yourself a little edge while you enjoy the summer sun, without breaking the bank or destroying your nicer accessories.  Pura Vida and Flash Tats are just the beginning.  Check out your local surf shop for more water proof accessories.  I have added some pictures of my favorite beach accessories and ideas that inspired my beach wardrobe.

Fourth of July!

Grab you red, white and blue, my fashion forward followers, Fourth of July is almost here!
Fourth Of July
This is the best way to kick off the summer! When I think of the Fourth, I think of friends and family hanging out pool-side, enjoying all kinds of BBQ and an ice cold beer, followed by the town’s biggest fireworks show.  This being said, my day time outfit consist of my favorite patriotic bikini.  While surfing the web for some cool ideas for American flag bathing suits, I found that my favorite ones were not the topical ones with red, white, and blue stars and stripes, They were the ones that were mix and matched.  Red top and blue bottoms, or white bottoms and a blue top.
You can’t forget to accessorize and pull the entire look together with beaded necklaces, hair ties, and sunglasses. To keep the patriotic flow going, I have found some American flag bandana that I can easily tie in my hair.  You can find them at any type of Party store, Dollar Store, or Wal-Mart!  While you are there, you should also grad some patriotic beads for you and your friends, and if you’re lucky, you will find some American flag sunglasses!
If you are the kind of person who doesn’t hang out pool-side or heads out of the boat, you have even more options for dressing like Uncle Sam.  Some of the best American flag apparel I have seen is from Macy’s Ralph Lauren collection.  They have a wide range from shorts, tanks, hoodies, and even maxi dresses!  While I am watching my fireworks show, I will be wearing some cut off jean shorts, and a crop top with a flag on it that I picked up at my favorite store, Urban Outfitters. This would be a great night to put together an outfit with high waisted shorts, a white top, and red accessories.
It is so much fun going all out for this holiday and truly dressing the part in my red, white, and blue.  The best part, EVERYONE ELSE IS TOO!  So the key is to make it your own!

Not Your Grandma's Maxi

Hello my fashion forward followers! I hope summer is treating you as well as it’s treating me!
One of the best feelings of summer is feeling care-free and relaxed.  Sometimes, these feeling are hard to come by, especially for us girls.  We are constantly worried about things in our life, whether it is a boyfriend, school, a job, or our outfits!  (If you all are anything like me, you are not a happy person when you don’t feel good about how you look, and a simple outfit can change your entire mood.)  So the last thing I want to worry about during my summer vacation, after a long day of laying in the sun, is my outfit for a night out on the town.
My FAVORITE kind of outfit is (1) easy to put together and (2) something that is comfortable, yet fashionable.  This is why we are talking maxi’s today!  Before maxi dresses became trendy, the words “maxi dress” would remind me of something my grandma would wear before bed.  (I also had a great grandmother named Maxi, so it was nothing I ever related to be trendy.)  Maxi dresses and maxi skirts have been all over the streets, and for good reason! They are crazy comfortable and they are easy to throw on after a long day at the beach.
Maxi Dresses
So, the dress or the skirt? If you are going for a dress, those are easiest because it’s a dress… no bottoms needed! Maybe just add a few accessories and you are ready to go.  They come in a variety of colors and lengths.  “High-Low” maxis are great if you are a little shorter, or if you don’t like full length dresses.  I enjoy dresses that are very flowy, and not tight or restricting.  One of my favorite stores, Free People, always have the best choices of beach maxis.
Maxi skirts are also a simple and comfy look for summer nights.  These outs require a little more thought but are still just as easy to throw on.  Maxi skirts come in different styles and lengths as well.  My favorite style are the ones that sit higher on the waist with slits running up the side. (This makes walking a little less of a challenge.)  I would then part the skirt with a crop top, or a shorter tank top. Pintrest is great for looking up different ways to pair tops with your favorite maxi skirt.

Cheers, Summer's here!

Summer Time Style

Welcome back my fashion forward followers As many of you know, IT’S SUMMER TIME! Here in South Florida, we know this because shorts seem to be getting shorter, shirts are beginning to get smaller, beach cover ups are the outfit of choice…. And it’s raining by 3 o’clock in the afternoon.  For all of these reasons (excluding the afternoon thunderstorms), summer time style is my favorite way to dress.
The hottest trend for this summer time style is a part of cut off, high-waisted shorts paired with a crisp white, flowy top to accentuate your summer glow.  For an extra layer, throw on a kimono with a floral print for a pop of color.  To complete this look, gladiator sandals are the way to go.  (You know, the ones with a lot if straps.)  I prefer brown or gold and the shorter version.  High top gladiator sandals are very trendy right now, so if you are feeling fearless, try them out!  And, of course, every girl needs her favorite part of shades or a floppy hat to protect her eyes.
As I mentioned in my previous post, my hopes are to inspire my followers, so I have added some inspirational pictures that will help you get an idea of some of my favorite go-to summer outfits!
